This oil lamp is one of the pieces of evidence for the occupation of Rione Vecchio, the present-day historic center of Amendolara, dated approximately between AD 1100 and 1300. It is a small oil lamp composed of three main elements: the body (or reservoir), which held the oil; the nozzle, from which the wick protruded, allowing the oil to burn slowly; and the handle, used to hold the lamp or hang it. In addition to lighting homes and places of worship, over time oil lamps also became ex votos offered to deities in sacred spaces and gifts placed with the deceased.
