The tripod is a three-legged object, often made of bronze, used to support vessels or large cauldrons employed during rituals or awarded to athletes as prizes in competitions. In sanctuaries, tripods are very frequently found as votive offerings, symbols of devotion and prestige, dedicated to the deity by pilgrims.
Miniature tripods also existed, such as those from the sanctuary of Capo Colonna. These objects are true symbolic replicas of full-sized tripods, allowing precious offerings to be made in reduced form. Such small gifts encapsulated the ritual function of the real object and today testify to the richness and variety of the offerings deposited in sacred places.
